On January 21, the world lost a super hero.
A special friend and coworker, a person who would literally take the shirt off his back. The minute you or someone in your family needed help he was there no matter what time of the day or night. I have many memories with Dr. Ray Dorritie flashing through my mind right now. Writing a grant for Recovery Community Outreach Center that he so strongly advocated for, brainstorming about a program that we wanted to put into Putnam County Jail and then writing the curriculum. Putting together conference after conference for high school students, staff training and community officials. Being wherever I couldn’t be. Toward the end of 2017, Ray began to get tired, his body was taking the toll from his congestive heart failure but he wouldn’t rest. There was work to be done at Drug Crisis in our Backyard and teaching to be done for the students at the Hudson Valley Resource Training Center. He did that work and helped countless numbers of families. We now have to say goodbye to Ray even though we still want him by our side to collaborate, argue, hug, teach, learn and love. Dr. Ray Dorritie will be missed by all that have ever had a chance to be part of his life.
